Varied approaches to positive parenting, nurturing, and responsive parent interactions are used in these support group sessions. Referrals come from schools and the community.
EPIC Stakeholders (Southwest) - Equal Partners in Change, Building a Better Community in EPIC Proportions - Equal Partners in Change, a community activist program with a grass roots commitment to social change, is facilitated and coordinated by Presbyterian Children's Village in Southwest Philadelphia. It brings together community stakeholders who wish to address concerns identified in and by their community. Members include interested adults from the community at-large, police officers from the 12th Police District, and Village staff. EPIC meetings are held monthly and are open to the public. This program is funded through the Philadelphia Department of Human Services.
Out of School Time Programs - The Village offers programs during non-school hours for children at risk, emphasizing academic remediation, enrichment activities, and social skills development. Academic enrichment, recreational games, and social skills development are the major components of summer camp. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged.
Parent as Truant Officer Program (PTO) - The Village Attendance/Truancy Intervention/Prevention Support Program addresses truancy, a severe problem in Southwest Philadelphia. The PTO program targets children who have had 5 to 7 unexcused absences from school. The Village is one of several outreach agencies which work in conjunction with the Philadelphia School District to address this problem.
Truancy Intervention - Case managers work with children and families where children have had an average of 15 unexcused absences. Case managers and families work together to get children out of truancy court and to reconnect them with after-school programs. The Village has a contract with Philadelphia Department of Human Services to conduct this program.
